Further progress on the expansion of Magee University is expected following positive talks with Irish and British Government officials, Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has said.

Cllr. Duffy was commenting after meeting with government officials from the North West Strategic Growth Partnership, the body tasked with developing strategic cross border projects in the North West region.

She said: “I requested this meeting in my capacity as chair of the North West Regional Development group and it was encouraging to hear of positive developments in a number of areas.

“Particular progress is being made to allow the drawing down of City Deal funding which will support a number of Innovation projects at Magee while officials from the Dublin government also updated me on the work they are doing to support the university’s expansion as part of commitments made in the New Decade New Approach agreement.

“The expansion of Magee will be a key economic driver for this region but so too will proper infrastructure links so I also emphasised the need for further progress on the A5 motorway, the development of a high speed line between Derry and Dublin and the need for a rail connection from Letterkenny to Derry to allow full connectivity for the entire north west.”
