26 in hospital as Derry and Strabane COVID-19 pandemic breaches 2,000 mark

Almost a thousand people tested positive for COVID-19 in Derry and Strabane over the past week taking the rate per 100,000 now up to 636.5

Four more people were admitted to Altnagelvin with the illness yesterday and at midnight there were 26 COVID inpatients across the Western Trust.

In total 2010 people have tested positive for the illness since the pandemic began.

According to the latest data released by the Department of Health this afternoon 959 new coronavirus sufferers were registered between September 30 and October 6.

That's more than the 891 positive cases recorded locally between March and last Wednesday, September 29.

The number of cases have more than doubled in little over one week.
