Derry teenager Tamzin White is meeting with Health Minister Robin Swann this morning as part of her campaign to have a Centre of Excellence/Detox Centre located in the city.

The 18-year-old launched the campaign following the death of her mother, Louise O’Doherty White, in January.

Louise, who was just 40-years-old, had battled addiction.

Tamzin, who has two younger sisters, has also lost other family members to addiction and mental illness. She has been seeking a meeting with Minister Swann on the issue for months and will meet with him at 10am this morning along with Councillor Emmett Doyle and MLAs Karen Mullan and Mark H Durkan.

Speaking to the Journal ahead of the meeting, Tamzin said: “I’m just hoping for a positive out of this meeting, because the people of Derry deserve it. More support is needed and has been needed for so long.”

Meanwhile, a banner highlighting the need and campaign for a detox centre will be unveiled at Free Derry Corner this Monday, May 10.
