A young man who answered a mobile phone call as an unaccompanied learner driver whilst uninsured was fined £575 plus a £15 offenders levy when he appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court.
A solicitor for Michael Lynch, of Ballykeery Road, Donemana, said the defendant had been anxious about his father, for whom he is a carer, when he took the call from a family member.
He accepted it was a “stupid mistake” the court heard. Lynch was also disqualified from driving for 12 months for driving without insurance.
