33-year-old threatened to kill ex-girlfriend

A Waterside man who threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend has been ordered to spend 18 months on probation.

Sean Johnston, of Hollymount Park, pleaded guilty to making a threat to kill on June 29, last year.

The local Magistrate’s Court heard the injured party received a phone call from the 33-year-old, during which he threatened to kill her.

He claimed he would be waiting outside Women’s Aid for her to come out.

Defence counsel Paul Kearney told the court the threat was ‘nasty, concerning and no-one should have to tolerate it’.

District Judge Barney McElholm warned Johnston if he came back for domestic violence ‘you will almost certainly serve a period of imprisonment’.
