Syria terror accused Eamon Bradley claims prayer damaged electronic tag

Eamon Bradley, of Benview Estate, Coshquin, is charged with attending a weapons and explosives camp between April and October 2014.

He is further charged with possessing a grenade with intent to endanger life or cause damage to property in Syria.

Derry Magistrates Court heard that G4S contacted police to report that the 26-year-old’s electronic tag had been tampered with.

The court was told police were not objecting to bail as Bradley has been adhering to conditions for the last year.

He added that the defendant is not accused of any further offences as a result of the breach.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said his client denies tampering with the tag.

He told the court Bradley has been subject to the tag for the last 11 months and he believes it was damaged through wear and tear.

Mr MacDermott added the 26-year-old prays fives times per day and he believes this has ‘stretched’ the strap of the tag.

Deputy District Judge Neil Rafferty released Bradley on the same conditions of bail.

He said the breach and subsequent appearance in court allowed Bradley to ‘know how closely monitored bail conditions are’.

The defendant is subject to a number conditions including a ban on leaving Northern Ireland and a ban on contacting anyone in Syria.

He is also prohibited from using any internet enabled device except in the North West Regional College to access relevant information for his course.

Bradley will appear in court again on February 11.
