Man charged with rape

A 75-year-old man charged with a string of historical sex assault offences appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court yesterday for a preliminary enquiry.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces four charges of rape and four charges of indecent assault of a female, alleged to have been committed between 1976 and 1980.

The court heard there was a prima facie case to answer.

The defendant will appear again at the Derry Crown Court for arraignment on March 30.
